Entrelac is a knitting technique that creates a very interesting, complicated look, however, it is only connecting squares while you knit and is really not that difficult. These knitting e-patterns are designed by Suzanne Pufpaff of the Yurt Boutique, part of Pufpaff's Fiber Processing.

The Entrelac Asymmetrical Tunic Vest: With the advent of many
asymmetrical styles showing up in the fashion market, Suzanne felt it
was time to see how entrelac could be used to create a garment that didn't
fit in a square box. The garment starts with a triangular skirt on the
tunic which is balanced by an off- set garter stitch shawl collar. Using
the ability to change square sizes as the garment is created, allows this
Entrelac Tunic to be custom fit in such a way as to flatter any body
The tunic modeled is an extra large sample garment and used 20 ounces (approx. 950 yards) of hand spun 2 ply fingering weight yarn. Larger and smaller yarns can be used but the fingering weight is recommended. The pattern allows for variations in yarn size and both commercial and hand spun yarns will work equally well in the pattern. Gauge is 6 sts to the inch and 9 rows to the inch. Gauge is not real important for this project. It is more important to match needle size to yarn size to make a light flexible fabric. Since entrelac creates a bias fabric, this also effects finished size more than the gauge. Size 5 (US) knitting needles were used for the model. Measurements of the model are 21.5 inches from shoulder to waist plus additional 20 inches to the end of the bottom point. The body measures 40 inches around just below the waist where the body is joined and 42 inches at the bust. All measurements can be customized using the How to Size section of the pattern. Again the bias effect of the entrelac creates a very flattering, body hugging garment. Stitch patterns are written row by row with five detail photos and a
color coded Construction Chart. This is one detail picture, 1/3 of the
size pictured in the pattern. This is a 10 page pattern which will be emailed to you as a pdf. attachment,
all pages will be sent in one e-mail. |

Entrelac Full Circle Skirt Suzanne says, "This
skirt is worked in the round without seams, starting at the waist with
a drawstring casing. As you can see from the photo, it's great fun to
wear and spinning is a must."
The sample skirt used 40 ounces (approx. 2800 yards) of hand spun 2 ply fingering weight yarn. Larger and smaller yarns can be used. Since this project is done in rows of squares, multiple colors and types of yarn can be used in a single skirt. Gauge is 5 sts to the inch, but not real important for this project.
It is more important to match needle size to yarn size to make a light
flexible but firm fabric. Size 3 circular needles were used for the sample.
The bias entrelac fabric affects finished size more than the gauge. The
skirt in the photo started with a 38 inch waist casing and is 25 inches
from waist to hemline; a How To Size section helps you customize
the skirt size. The stitch patterns are written out row by row along with
a color coded Construction Chart. Entrelac Full Circle Skirt Pattern is $5.00 |
