![]() Felt Bag knit with Roving Pattern is $5.00 |
Designer Suzanne Pufpaff says: " As a knitter,
all the mysteries of the roving used to hand spin yarn can now be used to create
a wonderful felt tote bag. The bag is created from medium weight unspun roving
to create very thick fabric. It can be created in either one or two colors.” The bag measures approximately 12 inches across and 8 inches deep after fulling. A bag requires approximately 1 pound of roving. A two color bag will require approximately 1/2 of this weight in the side color and 1/2 in the handle/base color. Wool and wool blends are recommended for best results. Needle suggested is Size 17 circular, 32 inches long Getting an exact gauge before felting is not required, but knitting needs to be loose to felt properly. ![]() Teddy Bear knit with roving Pattern is $5.00 |
Teddy Bear One bear requires
approximately ¾ to 1.25 pounds of roving and small bits of fiber to create
face and foot soles. An additional ¾ pound of wool is used to stuff the
bear. The stuffing wool needs to be washed and clean, but no additional processing
is needed. Size 15 or 17 circular or straight needle or a size allows the roving to be firmly knit but loose enough to shrink. The bear is worked back and forth so the length of the needle is not crucial. A felting needle was used to create the face and sole of foot. A crochet hook will join seams with roving or darning needle for joining seams with yarn. The three bears shown in the photo were all created from this pattern. The different size is made by using different size and types of roving. The large pink bear is from a 50/50 wool/alpaca blend. The little brown bear is from a 100% llama roving, which was a little thinner roving. The white bear is from a 66/35 alpaca/wool roving. The largest bear is about 24 inches tall. The smallest bear is about 12 inches tall. The same pattern can also be used with yarn to create an even smaller bear, plus a variation is given to make a rabbit.
